Today we headed to The Pantheon which sits on top of the Acropolis. This was another bucket list item of ours and we felt very blessed to share this experience with Elsi. It was a hot day but luckily not too humid and there were a lot of people, but once we made it to the top it was worth it. The climb was steep and a lot of the stones were slippery so it was a slow process for all. On the way up we saw several theaters, statues and old ruins.
Once we made it to the top, what an experience. Not only massive in size, but also the seeing the craftsmanship the ancient Greeks possessed thousand’s of years ago was truly awe-inspiring.
We took our time going back down and enjoyed seeing other temples.
Next we visited the Acropolis Museum, which housed a lot of the treasures and statues they have excavated form the Parthenon and surrounding temples. The sheer size of some of the statues was truly impressive.
O our way back we walked through the neighborhood of Plaka, a neighborhood famous for it’s beautiful houses filled with restaurants and shops for tourists. We ended our day with lunch at a small cafĂ©.
