Today was Thanksgiving back in the US, but as we were across the ‘pond’ we spent it sightseeing and eating fish and chips. Our morning started with us taking an Uber boat (easy and inexpensive way to travel along the River Thames) to the Tower of London.
Once we got to our stop, we walked across one of London’s iconic sights, the Tower Bridge.
Tower of London
Visiting the Tower of London was like going back in time. We learned a lot of history about this historic castle, built over 500 years ago, and used as the royal palace for centuries. Many executions were also held in the castle’s courtyard, including Anne Boleyn and Lady Jane Grey. The highlight was a visit The Jewel House which houses the Crown Jewels (no photography was allowed). Guarded by the Yeomen Warders, they have been kept here since the 14th century.
After our history lesson of the day, we took the TUBE to Poppies for some authentic British fish and chips. This years Thanksgiving was not at home, we missed Richard & Vanessa, Robert & Mary and Mo and we had fish instead of turkey, BUT it’s one we will always remember.
