Yesterday in Lima we spent wandering the streets of Barranco, a neighborhood with an artsy bohemian vibe to it.
We walked around and enjoyed the mural paintings on the buildings and statues in the parks. A lot of establishments were closed down, possibly due to COVID and lack of tourism this past year.
We found a quaint restaurant behind the church to eat lunch and and enjoyed the view of the Pacific.
Today was our final day in Lima. We reached out to Jorge, a former student that stayed with Elsie a few years ago. Him and his wife picked us up and took us about a half hour out of town to Pachacamac, an ancient Incan pyramid and sanctuary visited by the Andean people for hundreds of years. It had several temples and many streets and buildings. Encompassing several miles. It was the most important sanctuary up until the Spaniards came in the mid 1500’s when it was abandoned.
On our way back to our hotel, we stopped for lunch and had great conversations about life in Peru with Jorge. It’s been a great time in this bustling city. Filled with such wonderful people, great food and beautiful sights. Definitely a city to remember.
